We're home from the craziness that is Las Vegas. I'll update more about the trip some other time.
For now this will have to suffice.

He was one of the greatest fathers I've ever met. Anika has such a hard road ahead of her. I can't even imagine what Renata is going through. Our sadness seems so trivial when I think of what my friend has to bear now.

Oh my gosh, so young... what on earth happened? That's too sad. :-(
He was out harvesting almonds on the farm and there was an accident with the harvester. Renata was able to be with him before he died and for that we'll always be grateful.
The funeral and memorial was yesterday. It was heartbreaking and wonderful at the same time.
